One of the most promising and aesthetically needed elements in creation of any building are the tiles. It can make or break the ambience which one wants to give to their dream homes or places. Ceramic Tiles play a vital role in the construction industry. They are also known as porcelain tiles, which in today’s days are known as vitrified files.

Commonly used for covering walls and floors, it has a very less water absorbent capacity at the rate of less than 0.5 percent. The raw material used in making porcelain/ceramic is generally denser and the tiles can either be glazed or unglazed. The first ceramic - tile was made in China and since then large scale production of tiles has been undertaken into many countries like China, Italy, India (Morbi), Spain and Turkey. While countries like Australia and Brazil are undertaking small scale production of the same.

Previously these tiles were made using earthenware or stoneware, but as time passed certain other types of raw materials such as clay minerals mined from the earth's crust, natural minerals such as feldspar that are used to lower the firing temperature, and chemical additives required for the shaping process etc. were included for the making of tiles. The particles are processed according to their lump sizes. Once the required raw materials are processed, certain steps are taken into account to obtain the finished product. The manufacturing process includes Batching, Mixing and Grinding, Spray drying, Forming, Drying, Glazing, Firing, Shorting & Packaging.
